It is giving me immense pleasure to inform you that Indira Gandhi National Open University has opened its Study Centre .IGNOU is the only University which has International recognition and therefore all courses of this University are recognized by the MHRD & Univerity Grants Commission. IGNOU offers six months Bachelor Preparatory Programmes (BPP) for 10th or 12th failed students for doing graduation. Therefore such students who could not improve their academic qualification because of financial, age or other constraints, can now also complete their graduation from IGNOU in just three and half years. The university follows a flexible pattern. There is no age bar for doing various courses. English is not a compulsory subject for graduation. The classes are organised only on Sundays or holidays and the attendance in the classes is not compulsory.
Besides, IGNOU does not require any migration certificate, therefore, the students already enrolled in other universities or colleges can simultaneously do any course from this Open University. IGNOU has played a key role in democratization of higher education by providing cost-effective and high quality education to large section of our population especially to those living in remote and far-flanged areas and to those disadvantaged who could not attain higher education because of financial or other constraints. IGNOU has provided access to higher education to all segments of the society by offering high-quality, innovative and need-based programmes at different levels, to all those who require them. It has reached out to the disadvantaged by offering programmes in all parts of the country at affordable costs. The unique feature of the university is that it follows Multiple-Media approach for student study support that includes printed material, counseling, audio-visual aids, teleconferencing, Gyan Vani and interactive radio counseling. The University has started about 32 courses at Govt Degree College Paonta Sahib and from this session onwards, IGNOU is activating MBA & other Management Diploma programmes to cater the industrial needs of the region.
